What we collect

Makna collects your email address and name when you create an account. We also store the brand names and keywords you configure for monitoring. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

How we use your data

We use your data to provide the Makna service: monitoring Reddit for mentions of your configured brands and keywords, analyzing sentiment, and delivering insights through the dashboard and email digests.

Reddit-sourced data

Makna accesses publicly available Reddit data through Reddit's official Data API, in compliance with Reddit's Developer Terms, Data API Terms, and Responsible Builder Policy. Raw Reddit content is cached for a maximum of 48 hours during processing, after which only derived analytics (sentiment scores, topic tags, aggregate statistics) are retained. We do not store or reproduce original Reddit content. We do not share Reddit-sourced data with any third party. For full details, see our Reddit Data Policy.

Content & account deletion from Reddit

When content is deleted from Reddit, all related cached data and derived analytics are purged within 24 hours — including any data that has been de-identified or anonymized. When a Reddit user account is deleted, all author-identifying information is removed from our systems. See our Reddit Data Policy for complete details.

Analytics

We use PostHog (EU-hosted at eu.posthog.com) for anonymous product analytics to understand how the service is used and improve it. PostHog collects page views and anonymized usage events. We do not send your email address, name, or other personally identifiable information to PostHog. Analytics data is stored in memory only and does not use cookies or local storage. This processing is based on our legitimate interest in improving the service (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).

Third-party services

We use Supabase for authentication and data storage, Stripe for payment processing, Resend for transactional emails, and PostHog (EU-hosted) for anonymous product analytics. Each service processes data according to their own privacy policies. We access Reddit's Data API for brand mention monitoring. We do not share Reddit-sourced data with any of these third-party services beyond what is strictly necessary to operate the Makna service.

Data retention

Your monitoring data is retained for the duration of your subscription. If you cancel, your data is retained for 30 days before deletion. You can request immediate deletion by contacting us. If Makna's access to Reddit's Data API is terminated for any reason, all Reddit-sourced data — including derived analytics — will be promptly deleted in accordance with Reddit's Data API Terms.

GDPR compliance

Makna processes personal data (account information) under consent and contractual necessity. Publicly available Reddit data is processed under the legitimate interest legal basis (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).

As a data subject, you have the right to access, rectify, or erase your personal data, restrict processing, object to processing, and data portability. We respond to all data rights requests within 30 days. To exercise your rights, contact us at privacy@makna.app.
